1980s - Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, health care consumers grew more knowledgeable about their health. In response, fitness programs and health education became a key component of John C. Lincoln Hospital's mission.

1980 - John C. Lincoln Hospital Auxiliary announced the donation of four Parcourse Fitness Circuits to the City of Phoenix. The fitness courses were constructed at four North Phoenix city parks.

1981 - Ronald Reagan was inaugurated President of the United States.

1981 - Sandra Day O'Connor of Arizona was appointed by President Ronald Reagan as the first woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. O'Connor joined fellow Arizonan William Rehnquist.

1982 - The Cowden Center, a unique facility focusing on health education, rehabilitation and physical therapy, opened. The center houses the Grigg Medical Library, the first medical library in Phoenix open to the public.

1984 - In honor of their son, H. Skip Bryans, Harvey and Beulah Bryans pledged $500,000 toward the construction of a new skilled nursing facility. Bryans Extended Care Center opened in 1984.

1984 - Desert Mission Food Bank received a Block Grant to renovate its small building at 9 E. Mission Lane, doubling the space available for storage and distribution of emergency food boxes.

1985 - John C. Lincoln Home Health was established to provide safe and effective medical care delivered directly to patients in the comfort of their homes, continuing a tradition begun by Marguerite Colley in 1919.

1985 - John C. Lincoln Hospital employees establish Lincoln Gives, providing employees with the opportunity to give back to the community by making donations to charitable organizations of their choice.

1986 - John C. Lincoln Hospital opened the Adult Day Health Care Center, the first adult day care facility in Phoenix.

1987 - Dan Coleman became the CEO of what was then named Lincoln Health, the third administrator in John C. Lincoln Hospital's history.

1987 - Phoenix General Hospital moved to a new, expanded facility on 27th Avenue and Beardsley Road.

1988 - The Berlin Wall fell.

1988 - John C. Lincoln physicians began donating their time to provide limited hospital services to Sunnyslope Elementary School students suffering from common childhood ailments, such as ear infections and sore throats.

1988 - The Helen C. Lincoln Day Nursery outgrew its small space at Second Street and Hatcher Road, spurring the building and opening of Lincoln Learning Center. The Adult Day Health Care Center moved from its location inside the main hospital building into a wing of the Learning Center, providing opportunities for intergenerational activities.

1988 - Governor Evan Mecham of Arizona was impeached.

1989 - George H. Bush was inaugurated President of the United States.

1989 - Bryans Extended Care Center opened a ventilator unit.
