Student Nurse Advancement Program

At John C. Lincoln Hospitals, it's a "snap" for students to balance school and work. The hospitals' Student Nurse Advancement Program (SNAP) gives students clinical experience, provides mentoring opportunities and removes barriers to attending school.

SNAP also addresses common problems facing those considering a college education in nursing. Through SNAP, nursing students can get valuable work experience and these benefits:

  • Tuition assistance while working 12 hours per week
  • Flexible scheduling that allows for optimum work/school balance
  • Didactic studies coupled with meaningful paid work experience

Who is Eligible?

Any student of an accredited school offering ADN or BSN degrees and enrolled in core nursing curriculum is eligible for SNAP. We ask for proof of current level of enrollment as you complete each semester.

Student Tech I

  • Semester 1: A nursing student hired as a SNAP employee will work as a Student Nurse Tech I. This position provides students with experience in transporting patients, answering the phone on the unit, changing linens and sitting with patients who need extra supervision.

Student Tech II

  • Semesters 2 - 4: After completing Semester 1, you are eligible to apply for a Student Nurse Tech II role and begin to perform more patient care technician work. You are also eligible to work as a Patient Care Technician.

Nurse Extern

  • Final Semester: As you begin your final semester of school, you will apply to transition to a Nurse Extern. In this role, you observe and gain an understanding of the RN clinical role as well as how the RN manages, coordinates and evaluates the patient's plan of care. Becoming a Nurse Extern requires a post-graduation commitment to work for John C. Lincoln Hospitals.

How to Apply for SNAP

To apply for one of the SNAP positions (Student Tech I or II, Nurse Extern), you must complete an online application. Click here to check on available positions and complete an application.
