The Emergency Departments at John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital and at John C. Lincoln Deer Valley Hospital, both in Phoenix, always are here to help you in a crisis.
That said, here are 10 important summer safety tips from Nelson Faux, MD, on how to stay out of the Emergency Department during Arizona's hottest months.
Summer Safety Tips
1. Drink water. Don't wait until you are thirsty to find something to drink.
2. Stay out of the sun. Wear a hat and sunscreen if you must be in the sun.
3. Watch where you step. Snakes and other venomous critters are often out in the heat.
4. Never, ever leave a child in a parked car.
5. Watch children every minute around water.
6. Be aware that car seats and play surfaces can be extremely hot and can burn children's skin.
7. When biking or skating, wear a helmet.
8. Wear your seatbelt.
9. Wash your hands often.
10. Eat a well-balanced diet with five servings a day of fruits and vegetables.
