In preparation for H1N1, or swine flu, John C. Lincoln Deer Valley Hospital and John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital are beginning visiting restrictions now.
Adults should delay visiting anyone at the hospital if they have any flu-like symptoms such as fever, runny nose, cough and/or sore throat. Children 12 and younger are asked not to visit the hospital.
For most people, the H1N1 flu symptoms will be similar to any other flu and should be treated with rest, fluids and acetaminophen or ibuprofen for fever.
Prevent spreading the flu — or any other illness — by coughing into your sleeve or sneezing or coughing into a tissue and disposing of it immediately, according to Pam Murphy, MD, pediatrician at Mendy's Place, the 24/7 children's emergency center at John C. Lincoln Deer Valley Hospital in Phoenix.
Remember to wash your hands often and use hand sanitizer. Avoid touching your eyes or mouth as well to prevent the spread of flu or other illness. |
