varicose vein treatment
Swollen, rope-like veins, called varicose veins, can cause persistent pain and swelling in the calf and ankle, requiring specialized varicose vein treatment.

At John C. Lincoln, our team of highly trained interventional radiologists provides a non-invasive varicose vein treatment called radiofrequency vein ablation.

Performed on an outpatient basis in just 45 minutes, our varicose treatment quickly relieves patients of the pain and swelling of varicose veins. The procedure is covered by major health insurance plans.

During varicose vein treatment, a small catheter, or probe, is inserted into the diseased vein through the inner part of the thigh.

Once the probe reaches the starting point of the diseased vein, radiofrequency energy delivers heat to the vein wall, to close the vein and redirect blood flow to healthy veins. No incision is necessary to perform this procedure.

When varicose treatment is needed: The valves of healthy leg veins allow blood to flow upward (Image 1), and stop blood from flowing to the ankles (Image 2). However, in a diseased leg vein (Image 3), these valves stop working properly and allow gravity to pull blood downward to the ankles, rather than force blood back to the heart.
